Hi everyone! My name is Chelsea Webb and I am a member of the Xi Xi chapter of Delta Zeta at the University of North Georgia. I was so flattered when Jen from YSS contacted me to write a post about my sorority recruitment experience! I am a special case and never actually went through formal recruitment and was given a snap bid. A snap bid is given to a potential new member on bid day.
I knew from the moment I met some of the sisters in DZ that I wanted to be a part of their sisterhood. They were genuine and always had a smile when they saw me on campus! I signed up for formal recruitment and was ready to go through with it and my parents ended up talking me out of it at the last minute. I dropped out the first day and regretted it more and more as the weekend of recruitment went on. On bid day, I watched as other girl’s got their bids and watched all the new Delta Zetas run down the hill in their pink and green and sunk even more into my depression.
Later that day, I received a phone call from Delta Zeta asking if I was interested in taking a bid from them & of course I couldn’t turn it down! That day I made the most amazing decision I could have ever made by joining the most amazing sisterhood in the world! I couldn’t wait to get more involved!
After two years of being in Delta Zeta and holding several chair positions and acting as the Secretary on Executive Board, I decided it was time to take a leap of faith & run for a more involved executive position. I am now the Vice President of Recruitment and will be planning the recruitment of 2014 & I couldn’t be more excited! It is a lot of work, but will be so worth it in the end!
So just because you are not a normal case and did not go through formal recruitment on the PNM side does not mean you are not important and cannot make a difference in your sorority! I encourage each of you to step outside of your comfort zone and run for leadership positions! You will get out of Greek life what you put into it!
Love your story, so happy you found where you truly belong!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story! Going through rush was definitely the best decision ever for me. The day I got my bid was probably one of the most exciting moments of my life!
