5 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR CHAPTER MEETINGS MORE EXCITING

As much as I love being a member of a sorority, the thing I hated the most was chapter meetings. They were always so boring. To me, it would have been much more logical to just send out the repetitive list of dates and locations of upcoming events in a mass email every week. There was the occasional special ceremony when our new Sisters received their badges or the alumna ceremony at the end of the year, but other than that our meetings were pretty awful. I thought it would be fun to compile a list of ways to make your chapter meetings more fun. My ideas are fairly limited since I haven't attended a chapter meeting in quite a while so if you have any ideas, feel free to leave them below.

1. Bring food. It never failed that our chapter meetings were at the same time as a normal dinner time. If it is easy for you to bring something for all of your Sisters to snack on during the meeting (i.e. cupcakes, candy, etc.) offer to bring that. If you have a large chapter, then allow your members to bring their snacks to enjoy. Food makes everyone happier.

2. Themed meetings. Sometimes we had themed meetings that coincided with upcoming holidays. So in February we would all have to dress in red or pink. My absolute favorite themed chapter was for Super Bowl Sunday. Not only did we dress up, but everyone brought their favorite Super Bowl snacks.  Some other ideas are twins (each person has to dress like a pair like Mario and Luigi, princesses, and the 80s are a few ideas), Oreo (everyone can only wear black or white), and {insert sorority colors}.

3. Rapping. Yes, I did just suggest rapping in the exact way you are thinking. When I was an officer I got so tired of giving the same monotonous report every week. One week I stood up to give my report and rapped it. No it wasn't good, but it made the 3 minutes I had to talk a lot more entertaining. Some other ideas of opera style, country song, and techno.

4. New venue. Sometimes it helps just to get out of your usual routine. Schedule a informal chapter meeting and book a restaurant or somewhere else just to get out of the house or meeting room. Everyone will be so excited about the change. Also, if it is in a restaurant you can order food! (see number 1)

5. Host a raffle. Every once in a while have a raffle where you give out a nice gift basket or prize to your members who are attending. Pass out tickets when they walk in the meeting or have the tickets already in their seat. Explain to them what the ticket is for, but don't draw then. Before ending your meeting draw to see who won the prize. It will keep them guessing throughout the meeting and on their toes!

I hope these ideas help you make your meetings more enjoyable! Definitely let me know if you have other ideas by commenting below!!

P.S. Use #YSSChapterStyle to show off what you wear to chapter meetings!

  1. Love these ideas! I agree, chapter meetings can be sooo dull. I only like going because it's a great opportunity to see my sisters, especially the ones I don't see on a regular basis. We always bring food to meetings too, it's a great incentive.

As far as the raffle idea goes, we pass around a "Skip Jar" where you put your name in the jar if you didn't skip class that week. At the end of the chapter a name is drawn and the winner gets a prize! It's a great incentive to keep going to class as well as chapter.
