SISTERHOOD

I fully believe that the most important aspect of sorority membership that we can offer is Sisterhood. The word 'sorority' itself means sisterhood, so why is it so often that our Sisterhood events are the events that the push back to a later date to accommodate other events? As a chapter and Exec. member I heard so many times that we would have to cancel our Sisterhood event to a) attend a function, b) go to a Greek life meeting, or c) because no one wanted to attend.

This, my Sisters, is ridiculous.

If you are cancelling your Sisterhood events, the very basis of sorority, then why are you attending the other events? Boys are not the reason we join a sorority. Greek life meetings are not the reason we join a sorority. Flaking on each other is not why we join a sorority.

Trust me, I do not want this to come across as I am griping or venting because I am not. I have not had this particular experience in a couple of years. So, why am I bringing it up?

It is important to stop and remember the real reason we joined a sorority in the first place - to create the bonds of friendship and sisterhood. We are social organizations, but why must all of our social activity involve fraternities? Why can we not take a moment every month or every two weeks to have a social to get to know each other better. Here are some ideas to host "Sisterhood Socials".
