I think it is required that to pack for a conference, you have to have a momentary lapse of "OMG I have no idea what to wear." In reality, conference attire is no different than what you would wear to work if you have a desk job or to chapter. I am leaving for a conference this week (AFLV, anyone?) with some of my students and they are all freaking out about what to wear. In all fairness, I would be too if I didn't wear "conference attire" on a daily basis. I decided to put together a list of what to wear and what not to wear. Some people totally miss the ball on what is considered conference attire and no one wants to be that girl.
WHAT TO WEAR
- trousers, loose-fitted blouse, cardigan
- sweater, pencil skirt, scarf, leggings/tights, boots
- dress, blazer, heels
- sweater, trousers
- leggings, tunic
- a nice fitted dress
- maxi dress, long cardigan
- maxi skirt, geometric top
- sweater dress, leggings, boots
- ankle pants, denim shirt, heels
WHAT NOT TO WEAR
My best advice is to use your judgement. If you wouldn't wear it to a business meeting, don't wear it to a conference. Also, don't wear anything you would wear for a bachelorette party. I would also say it is important to keep your outfits simple. It is great to add statement pieces or add a pop of color, but I don't think you want to be the girl who wore feathers and glitter.
Really though... I'm here to help. If you ever have a question if an outfit is "conference appropriate" shoot me an email with a pic! I am so serious.
What are your outfit don'ts for conferences? What does your go-to outfit look like?
