YOU DO YOU
"But Chapter A does it this way."
If I had a dime for every time I heard this sentence or some other comparison to another chapter, I could easily afford to go on a nice trip to NYC or some other major city. My response to chapter members who say this is always the same. You are not in Chapter A and your chapter will never be the same as Chapter A, so why do you insist on measuring yourself against their success?
The best part is I often hear Chapter A comparing themselves to Chapter B, and then Chapter B talk about Chapter A's successes. I think it is so important for chapter leadership and members to realize that you all have areas that you excel in and areas of improvement. Every chapter has these areas. No one is perfect no matter how they may portray themselves.
Usually this worry and comparison comes from the perception that chapters are inferior and superior to one another. Rankings on campus do not mean anything and there really are no clear measurements. You may be first in grades, but another chapter may have won Greek Week. Someone else may have had a very strong recruitment, while you had very successful sisterhood events. Again, there is no clear measurement.
I think it is also important to remember that chapters are never going to let you see the areas they need to improve. They are only going to put on their best face when it comes to tweets and Facebook album pictures.
The quote above is so true because if you focus on other people you will never fix all of your areas of improvement. You will always be too concerned about their perceived successes. Instead, turn that focus inward and make yourself and your chapter better!
