One of the sessions was all about learning how to empower your female students for their careers. I will admit that I also had this blog in mind when I decided to go. We talked about a lot, but one thing that I wanted to share with you today is the documentary Miss Representation.
I have been wanting to watch this documentary for a while and finally did while I was stuck in the airport on my way home. It was such an honest message - not necessarily positive, but I think that shows where we are. Some of the information is a little outdated now, but it is absolutely still relevant. I found myself crying during some of the stories from the teenage girls and absolutely appalled by the interviews from politicians. And don't even get me started on the media.
There is also a really great website that accompanies the documentary. I actually found the entire documentary on YouTube, but I highly encourage you to watch it! It has a great message and a lot of things that need to be said!
It's on Netflix too, I think :)
ReplyDeleteI watched this on Netflix a few months back and it really rang true and made me think about some of the things women go through. Very powerful documentary
ReplyDeleteYou're right! It is on Netflix. I didn't even look there after I saw it on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteVery powerful. It made me so upset to see how the media treats female politicians.
