GUEST POST | WHY CAN I NEVER FIND THE PERFECT FORMAL DRESS?! A SEMESTERLY STRUGGLE

I’m writing this article over a major struggle I am having right now. Formal dresses. I hold such high expectations for the perfectly trendy, not over the top, not too revealing, but still shows some skin, beautiful, preppy, pretty, make-this-the-best-formal-ever, dress. Did I mention I’m on the budget of a broke college girl who has a spending problem?! All of these factors combined, I feel my options are close to zero when it comes to dance dresses.

This semester, I’m trying to work in advance. I have two formals for the first weekends in March. Two weeks is working in advance, right?!?! (Not.) Anyway, I thought I would share my lovely finds with you too so we can all show up wearing the same dress. A non-issue since we probably all go to different schools.

Spool 72

If you’re looking for something a bit more unique, but within budget, try Spool 72. Their super cute, trendy and young dresses would be perfect for many of your upcoming formals and semi-formals.

Discount Lilly Dresses?!

I can’t hack out all the cash it takes to get my hands on a beautiful, new Lilly Pulitzer dress. That’s why I’m always looking for a steal on one of these gorgeous gowns. 6pm.com has some recent dresses for a fraction of the price. They might be a little out of season but are always fine if you’re buying last summer’s dresses for this spring’s formal.

ModCloth

ModCloth has some of the most unique dresses on the web. These vintage inspired dresses are great for so many occasions. I love this blue cut-out, peplum dress. It’s so cool and would be a showstopper at any dance you’re attending!

Lulu’s

Lulu’s has so many dresses that are adorable it’s hard to pick just one! Their dresses are young and feminine and are easy to wear and accessorize. This red one is a great, daring dress if you’re looking for a plunge.

I think this shop is a gold mine when it comes to preppy and affordable dresses. Some of their dresses are a little more semi-formal than formal but can be dressed up with the right heels and jewelry.
