WHO ARE WE?

I try to keep things very positive here on the blog and in my life in general. I hate negativity. Above all I hate when people are mean to others. I really believe that you should never judge someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes.

With that being said, I have come in contact with people recently that made me so upset over things they have said and done. Today before class, a guy popped his head in the door to ask a question. We answered and he left. A guy in my class replied by saying "Okayy byeeee" in a long, drawn out way. A girl then turned to him and said, "You sound like such a sorority girl."

I'm sorry. What?

I know that we are not as visible on our campuses as we hope to be. We coordinate membership recruitments, complete thousands of hours of community service, raise thousands of dollars for philanthropies, occupy important student activities chairs on our campus, and maintain higher than average GPAs without the recognition we deserve. We are humble people.

If more people could see what we do, then generalizations like the one my classmate made would disappear. No one would be able to cast sorority women as ditzy because they would finally understand all of the accomplishments we make each year.

One thing my boss always says to me is "If you don't brag on yourself, then no one else will." I absolutely despise bragging on myself, but she is right. I challenge each of you to brag more on yourself, your Sisters, your chapter, and your community.
